Shondella Umeh is a mental health specialist who serves individuals with Severe Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), meeting every client where they’re at and achieving results. Shondella worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Certified Neuromuscular Massage Therapist (CNMT) for 15 years, where she assisted patients and clients with healing and rehabilitation. Shondella is a proud lifelong learner and educator. She taught college orientation classes, behavioral science courses, and worked as an academic advisor at Butler Community College in Andover, Kansas for 15 years. A researcher, HIV/AIDS, first generation college students, generations in the workplace, student mental health and COVID-19, and trauma stress continuum and COVID-19 include centered topics.
Shondella received her Master’s Degrees in Sociology and Aging Studies from Wichita State University. She also has a Graduate Certificate in Public Health. She is a Mc Nair Scholar Alumni and has presented academic research at various research conferences throughout the Mid- West. In her spare time, Shondella enjoys reading, writing, singing, dancing, playing drums, hanging out with friends and family, and traveling internationally. Her favorite international destinations are Germany and Nigeria. She is a self-described horticulturalist who loves playing in the dirt. Shondella grew up in Wichita, KS, Seattle, WA, and Atlanta, GA. She currently lives in Wichita, KS with her Rottweiler, Roxy and Pitbull, Red. An analytical writer and spoken word artist, Shondella is a firm believer in “grabbing life by the horns.”
